Welcome to AVERT

.

AVERT is an international and independent HIV and AIDS charity based in the UK, with the aim of AVERTing HIV and AIDS worldwide. AVERT has a number of overseas projects, helping with the problem of HIV/AIDS in countries where there is a particularly high rate of infection, such as South Africa, or where there is a rapidly increasing rate of infection such as in India.

Through our highly successful web site, www.avert.org, we take education and information to people in almost every country in the world.

AVERT receives no statutory funding and we rely on donations to be able to continue our work. We are a small and very efficient organisation which allows a very high percentage of all donations to go directly to overseas projects.

Our Vision-

AVERT's mission is to fight against the worldwide HIV/AIDS epidemic; through HIV/AIDS care, support and education we bring help to people around the world. We aim to prevent people from becoming infected with HIV, and improve life for those who are already living with HIV/AIDS. We look forward to a world without AIDS.

Programmes and Activities-

Overseas Projects

As a central part of our work, we have a variety of projects across the world including:

Sisonke:

A community HIV/AIDS programme in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. The aim of Sisonke is to help small community groups assist their own communities in responding more effectively to HIV/AIDS.

Tintswalo Hospital:

Tintswalo Hospital is in a rural part of Limpopo in South Africa. The area has a population of over 1 million people.

AVERT is providing:

o HIV/AIDS training for health care workers
o Lay counsellors to assist with treatment, training and translation
o Visiting Paediatricians to assist with the treatment of children with AIDS

SANGRAM:

This is an integrated project on STD/HIV/AIDS prevention and care among transport, migrant workers and persons living with HIV/AIDS in Sangli which is in a rural part of central India. Sangli is an area south of Mumbai which has a particularly high prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS.

The website AVERT.org

Visited by over 100,000 people every week, this is a crucial part of our work against HIV/AIDS. It provides education and information to people in all parts of the world.
